Reason for the Season

I recently completed a new Christmas CD entitled Reason for the Season.  In putting the music together, I wisely sought the help of a number of fantastic Seattle singers, including Steve Olson, April Quedado Norkool, Kathryn Baker, Stephen O'Sullivan, and my dear wife Tracey Wilson Yackley.  They all knocked me out with beautiful performances.

Equally fantastic is a very young singer - a 7th grader at Holy Family, Catherine McCool - if you don't hear anything else of the MP3 excerpts below, check out a little of her rendition of "Some Children See Him."

Personal aside #1: "This Blessed Morn" was composed by my brother Thomas 20 years ago.  Personal aside #2: "Glo of Christmas" was composed by my grandfather Vallie D'Ambrosio around 70 years ago.  Personal aside #3: nothing says "Christmas" like balalaika and theremin in 5/4 time :) - check out "We Five Kings".

The CD is a mix of old and new songs, some originals, some vocal, some instrumental.  If you like what you hear and would like to purchase one, they are $15 (buy 4 and the 5th is free).  We have to charge a shipping fee of $1.50 per CD.  Send me email at david@yackley.com if you would like to purchase any of my music.  Thanks, have a wonderful Christmas - and please remember the reason for the season - our Lord Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world.

John Paul II: With These Hands

With the passing of John Paul II, the world mourns the loss of a steadfast man of faith whose perseverance and wisdom will continue to inspire for many years to come.  In remembrance of this remarkable man, I hope you will take time to experience - and share with others - a 6-minute meditation on the life and words of our Holy Father, With These Hands.

In You, Lord - a song from David's CD Offering - takes on a whole new dimension in this Flash movie.   Using dramatic-style comic-book illustrations and animation technology, the movie brings to life the story of a young man struggling with his ultimate search for meaning and redemption (like, kinda serious, dude).  Requires Flash 5, which is already on about 95% of computers.

Tribute to Blessed Teresa and JPII

Recently the world witnessed the convergence of two notable events in history: the 25th anniversary of John Paul II's papal inauguration and the beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

So many times our young people (and us old people too) are idolizing celebrities who are not heroes at all!  Here are two contemporary figures who exemplify both holy and heroic.  Let's celebrate them and the values of Christ that they reflect.

The following is a tribute to Blessed Teresa and our Holy Father; it's a 9-minute animated slide show with narration and music.  Our LIFE TEEN band presented this at Holy Family on October 19, 2003.  We hope you enjoy it - please pass this link on to others who love Blessed Teresa and our Holy Father.

To experience the tribute, click on one of the 'Movie' links below - if you experience breakup while streaming, it is recommended that you right click and 'save as' to your computer's hard drive.  Windows Media 9 required - if the movie won't play, you can download at ( http://www.windowsmedia.com/9series/download/download.asp). Please send me mail if you would like a higher-quality version on a CD, or a Powerpoint version of the slides (without narration or music).
